Who: Alice David and Dormy
Where: Alice's home in Wonderland
What: Her son has been returned to her after years away from her in Wonderland.

David had been silent the better part of the day since he was brought before the Lady of Legend. Lady Alice was not what he expected much less being told that she was his mother by the person he though more of as a father then the man who was suppose to be.

'I found you're egg in the land of the Oysters, they snatched your egg from us. You were made for Wonderland Youngest Hatter. Never doubt you are my son as much as you will be a legend some day as well. More tea?'

His father's speech in one of those moments of clarity, his father was mad as a box of frogs and even as a child he could easily see that. He had heard that speech an hour before Dormy had grabbed him from behind and yanked him out of the house through the cellar. That was the night that the Mad Hatter was carried out by the suits followed by the Queen and Mad March. 'Find the boy, kill him.' He had heard the Queen say but he was not found, no Dormy had played godfather better then any would have expected and now he was just giving him to someone else.

"Are you not happy to see the woman who birthed you?" Dormy asked sitting on the floor eating the snacks that had been brought for the boy who was refusing to eat.

"I don't see why we are here Dormy... She's not my mother, I have no mother. I was born from an egg remember?"

"You're father was not serious and you know that. You yelled at him when he said that, I don't know why you insist on believing it now." Dormy retorted as David sat up "Young Hatter?" The elder spoke as The boy pulled his fancy jacket on A very steampunk looking outfit.

"I need a walk, I cant sleep. I do not like this place, I want to go back to the great library." He spoke walking for the door as he pulled his hat on.

"We can not, you pissed Do-do off something bad this time David."

"It's Hatter you know this Dormy. Someone has to hold the reigns." He spoke at barely 10 years old he should not have to be forced to be mature but that was what Wonderland does these days. The boy made his way out of the room towards the outside, he wanted to look at the stars.

Alice stared back and forth between the two creatures in her study. A boy, decidedly human -- or at least moreso than most she'd encountered in this place. And in his face, if she squinted and cast far back in her own mind, she recognized elements of her own fine features. The sharpness of eyes and high cheekbones inherent to the Liddell line.

Combined with that of a man she did not particularly care to remember.

"I think I would remember giving birth." Alice said scathingly, knowing full well and true that it was a lie. To the contrary, there were wide gaps in her own recollection, voids in her life during which she remembered nothing but Wonderland and the battle she fought within. If she had truly birthed this whelp, she would have been a mere slip of a girl. And still, even with that knowledge, she had to admit it was possible.

"And what am I to do with a child?" She asked, crossing her arms as she stood once more.

"Hell if I know! But you're the last vestige of safety in this place, and I can't take him back with me."

Alice frowned deeply at Dormy, then turned her gaze back to the child. Hard green eyes though Alice had, they softened considerably, and she sighed as she knelt on the floor beside the boy.

This home was no place for a young boy. Fashioned in the hollowed trunk of a great, dead tree and strung high with tattered lanterns, the place was protected by scads of the lingering magic crafted from Alice's own mind. Nevertheless, it was very much Alice's home, and the walls and shelves were piled high with murky jars of expired oddities, skeletal remains of creatures unrecognizable and long-since dead, and all manner of metal implements whose official use didn't bear thinking on.

Alice gently took the boy's face in one hand, staring hard into his eyes.

"I will care for you, if you choose to stay with me. But the choice is yours."

It was all Alice could do not to snort at the explanation. Set the Dodo on fire. If Alice hadn't been convinced the child was her's before, she believed it now.

"We'll be fine, you and I." Alice assured the child, gently ruffling his hair with one hand. "In case you hadn't noticed, I'm not all there myself."

It's not as if Alice had not dealt with problem children before. The orphanage taught her a certain way with children, and she spared them a good deal more patience than she spared a great many people, London or Wonderland it mattered not.

As for his father's death, Alice still had her own sincere doubts about that.

"You may go, Dormy. Thank you."

The mouse nodded shortly, looking about to speak for a moment longer, before ducking quickly out of the musty little home.

Alice sat on the floor a while longer, fixing the boy with a critical look. "Have you inherited your father's tendency toward mystery, or do you have a name you prefer other than 'Youngest Hatter'?"

Alice offered a half-smirk at the mention of the queen, shrugging as she stood and wound her way into the untidy little kitchen. If she knew Hatters -- and she did -- they preferred their tea hot and in plenty. The kettle was sadly rusted from disuse, but she set it to boil on the stove, and set about readying the tea, just as own dear Hatter always used to.

"And do you prefer David? Or Hatter?" She called from the kitchen. "Your father tended toward Hatter. I tried to make him take a more suitable name once, and he became quite cross with me."

A few minutes after the kettle whistled, Alice returned to the study with a tray of tea, which she placed carefully on the floor between them as she knelt again. She smoothed her dress out around her, waiting to see if the young Hatter would make any move toward serving the tea out for them. If he truly were the Hatter's child, as well as her own, he would have some insane proclivity for the stuff, and Alice was fascinated despite herself.

"I think you should know, the Queen has something to fear from me. This home and the surrounding lands are still my own domain. Your father and I held them since long before her tenuous reign. You're quite safe here."
